RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-476-9 with the County of Santa Clara, a government agency, in an amount not to exceed $390,000, for the provision of inpatient mental health services to inmates housed in Module 8A of the Santa Clara Main Jail, for the period from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract payment limit is funded by Hospital Enterprise I Funds in an amount not to exceed $390,000 for inpatient mental health services. (Rate increase)











BACKGROUND:

Santa Clara County Department of Correction provides Acute Inpatient Mental Health Services to inmates housed at its facility, including, but not limited to, psychiatric, psychological, and counseling services; physician and nursing services, ancillary services, including laboratory tests or medications; and routine medical and dental services. On August 6, 2013, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-476-7 (as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-476-8) with County of Santa Clara to provide inpatient mental health services to Contra Costa County inmates housed in Module 8A of the Santa Clara Main Jail, for the period from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015.   
  
Approval of Contract #26-476-9, will allow Contractor to continue to provide Acute Inpatient Mental Health Services to Contra Costa County inmates at Santa Clara County jail facility through June 30, 2017. This Contract contains a mutual indemnification clause.   
  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, inmates with a severe mental illness will not receive psychiatric treatment or ancillary services at Santa Clara County’s detention facility.
