RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a blanket Purchase Order with Zebra Technologies International LLC., in the amount of $540,000 to purchase patient label sheets and customized adult wrist bands for the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and the Contra Costa Health Centers (CCHC), for the period June 5, 2015 through June 4, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% funding is included in the Hospital Enterprise Fund I Budget.

BACKGROUND:

Zebra Technologies International LLC provides the CCRMC and the CCHC with customized patient labels and wrist bands. These wrist bands and label sheets are required to identify patient names, birthday, and allergies when giving medicine, or when performing procedures or surgeries. This is essential to patient identification and safety. Zebra Technologies is a Novation Group Purchasing vendor, thereby ensuring that the County has secured the best prices for these products.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this Purchase Order is not approved, we will not be able to identify patients and confirm who they are before administering medications or doing a procedure/surgery. This could possibly result in the wrong medications being given and/or the wrong procedure/surgery being done on the wrong patient.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
