RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 2015 Port Security Grant in an amount not to exceed $452,339 for the maintenance and repair of previously purchased patrol vessels.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Up to $327,339 in Federal revenue. The estimated total cost of repairs and maintenance is $452,339 over the 36 months of the grant period. This results in a net county cost/in-kind match of $125,000.

BACKGROUND:

The proper maintenance of existing specialized security equipment and patrol vessels purchased with previous Port Security Grant Program funds will enable the Office of the Sheriff Infrastructure Protection Team to continue to provide a sustained security presence designed to detect, deter and defeat any potential threats to public safety.The maintenance of the two Moose Boat patrol vessels, purchased with previous Port Security Grant Program funds, will allow the Office of the Sheriff Infrastructure Protection Team to continue to provide a sustained security presence.



CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Negative action on this request will result in the inability to maintain and repair previously purchased vessels. This is essential to proved a sustained security presence designed to detect, deter and defeat any potential threats to public safety.
