RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21670 to add one permanent full-time Medical Social Worker II (X4VH) position at salary level 255-1590 ($5,217 - $6,347) and cancel vacant Medical Social Worker - Project (X4V2) position #5838 at salary level 255-1590 ($5,217 - $6,347) in the Health Services Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, there is no additional cost to add and cancel these positions. (100% offset)

BACKGROUND:

The Health Services Department is requesting to add one Medical Social Worker II position assigned to the Public Health Division's HIV/AIDS and STD Program in Martinez, CA. The Program works with individuals in diverse communities and organizations to improve environmental, social and economic conditions that contribute to poor health. Duties and responsibilities include client assessments focused on medical, social, emotional and environmental concerns; develops a comprehensive care plan; provides coordination and follow-up with service providers and accurately interprets data for clear and concise reports. We are canceling the vacant Medical Social Worker II - Project position in order to retain staff to continually perform all duties and responsibilities in the HIV/AIDS and STD Program.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Public Health Division will not have the staffing need to continuously manage the combined caseload of roughly 800 individuals annually, of which the Medical Social Worker II position is currently responsible.
