RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the Sheriff-Coroner, a purchase order with Bay Cities Produce, in an amount not to exceed $500,000, to provide fresh produce and related items for the 3 detention facilities for the period May 1, 2023 through April 30, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$500,000 maximum. 100% County General Fund; Budgeted.

BACKGROUND:

Bay Cities Produce is a local company that purchased Spike's Produce, a locally owned and operated small business. The Office of the Sheriff has worked with Spike's Produce for a number of years because they were able to provide the 3 adult detention facilities with daily deliveries of low-cost but high-quality produce. With this merger, Bay Cities Produce is able to provide uninterrupted services while keeping prices low. This blanket purchase order will ensure timely delivery of essential food products for meals served at adult detention facilities.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Sheriff's Office will not have an active purchase order to acquire food products necessary for meals at the County's adult detention facilities.
