RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Contract Amendment Agreement #76-579-7 with Jamal J. Zaka, M.D., an individual, effective March 1, 2022, to amend Contract #76-579-6 to increase the payment limit by $90,000, from $900,000 to a new payment limit of $990,000, with no change in the term of April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this amendment will result in additional expenditures of up to $90,000 and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

Due to the limited number of specialty providers available within the community, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Contra Costa Health Centers relies on contracts to provide necessary specialty health services to its patients. CCRMC has contracted with Dr. Zaka for pulmonology specialty services including but not limited to clinical coverage, consultation, training and on-call services at CCRMC and Health Centers since 2017.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

On February 2, 2021, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #76-579-6 with Jamal J. Zaka, M.D., in an amount not to exceed $900,000, for the provision of pulmonology services for the period from April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2024.

Dr. Zaka has been providing pulmonary clinic coverage and on-call coverage for the Critical Care Unit at CCRMC. Usage of his services has increased due to COVID-19 related work.

Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #76-579-7 will allow the contractor to provide additional pulmonology services through March 31, 2024.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this amendment is not approved, CCRMC and Health Centers will not have access to this contractor’s additional pulmonology clinic services.
