RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-471-8 with The Board of Trustees of the California State University (dba California State University), an educational institution, to provide supervised field instruction in the County’s Public Health Division to nursing students, for the period from August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2025.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact for this action.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of this agreement is to provide The Board of Trustees of the California State University (dba California State University) nursing students with the opportunity to integrate academic knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefiting from the students’ services to patients.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

On August 6. 2019, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-471-7 with The Board of Trustees of the California State University (dba California State University) to provide supervised fieldwork instruction experience with Health Services, for the period from August 1, 2019 through July 31, 2022.

Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-471-8 will allow The Board of Trustees of the California State University (dba California State University) nursing students to receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience, in the County’s Public Health Division, through July 31, 2025.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this agreement is not approved, the students will not receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience in the County’s Public Health Division.
