RECOMMENDATION(S):

RESCIND Traffic Resolution No. 2017/4455 and ADOPT Traffic Resolution No. 2022/4521 to prohibit vehicles over 30 feet in length on Pinehurst Road (Road No. 2631A), Canyon area. (District II)

FISCAL IMPACT:

No fiscal impact.

BACKGROUND:

Pinehurst Road is a narrow canyon road with numerous vertical and horizontal curves, including two 180 degree "hairpin" turns near the northern end. Several instances of trucks getting stuck on the hairpin turns have been documented over the years. Geometric studies (including turning template analysis) have demonstrated that State-standard truck (WB-30), or vehicles 30-feet in length, are able to negotiate the hairpin turns. The same geometric study indicates trucks over this length are likely to encounter difficulty negotiating those turns. Prohibiting such vehicles from Pinehurst Road will enhance traffic safety for drivers of these larger vehicles, as well as other road users.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

This Board of Supervisors action also includes rescinding Traffic Resolution No. 2017/4455, which earlier set a 40-foot truck length limit on Pinehurst Road.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The current 40-foot truck length restriction will remain on Pinehurst Road.
