RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Contract #76-613-3 with Cardinal Health Pharmacy Services, LLC, a limited liability company, containing mutual indemnification, in an amount not to exceed $170,000 to provide remote entry of physician medication order services for the Martinez Detention Facility, for the period May 1, 2022 through April 30, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This contract will result in contractual service expenditures of up to $170,000 over a two-year period and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I allocations. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

CCRMC has an obligation to provide review of physician medication order services from Martinez Detention Facility physicians and provide clinical support to Detention Facility staff to ensure inmates receive required medications while incarcerated. This contractor has been providing pharmacy review and order entry at CCRMC since May 1, 2018.

On May 26, 2020, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #76-613-2 in the amount of $170,000, for the provision of remote entry of physician medication orders from the Martinez Detention Facility including reviewing and entering all medication orders into the Customer’s Pharmacy Information System, resolving all incomplete or questionable orders submitted by County Pharmacist, providing clinical support to Detention facility staff and conducting daily briefings with the Director of Pharmacy, for the period from May 1, 2020 through April 30, 2022.  
  
Approval of Contract #76-613-3 will allow the contractor to continue to provide remote entry of physician medication orders through April 30, 2024.This contract includes mutual indemnification.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring after-hours medication orders at Martinez Detention Facility will not have access to this contractor’s services.
