RECOMMENDATION(S):

1. OPEN the public hearing on Resolution No. 2022/180 amending the fee schedule for the Agriculture Weights and Measures Department;
2. CONSIDER public testimony concerning the proposed increases;

3. CLOSE the public hearing, and ADOPT Resolution No. 2022/180, amending the fee schedule for the Agriculture Weights and Measures Department effective June 1, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

It is estimated the proposed fee increases will generate approximately $13,000 in additional annual revenue.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Failure to adopt this new fee schedule will result in a loss of revenue to the Department.

BACKGROUND:

In 2016, the Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 2016-06 approving the Agriculture Weights and Measures Department’s current fee schedule. Since 2016, the Department’s cost of providing services has increased as well as the cost of some of the materials used in programs. The Agricultural Commissioner has evaluated the current fees and determined an increase in certain fees are necessary in order to cover the costs of the services provided by the Agriculture Department.

The Agriculture Department recommends amending its fee schedule to cover the increased costs of providing services, as set forth in the attached fee schedule. The fees in the proposed fee schedule do not exceed the amount allowable by statute or the cost incurred by the County to provide the service or enforce the regulation.
