RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Health Services Director, or designee, to execute on behalf of the County Grant Agreement #28-986, including mutual indemnification, with California Department of Developmental Services (DDS), to pay the County an amount not to exceed $250,000 to allow the County to expand the existing COVID-19 Adult Ambassador Program by providing specialty health ambassadors to promote equity and reduced disparities for persons with development disabilities, for the period from May 1, 2022 through April 30, 2023.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this grant agreement will result in payment to the county up to $250,000 in funding from the DDS. No County match is required.

BACKGROUND:

DDS is authorized by the California Welfare & Institutions Code to award grants to community-based organizations to promote equity and reduce disparities for persons with developmental disabilities in California.

Under this Grant Agreement #28-986 Contra Costa Health Services Department will expand its existing COVID-19 Adult Ambassador Program to include a new Specialty Health Ambassador Program. The Specialty Health Ambassador Program will provide services to decrease health disparities for persons with developmental disabilities in Contra Costa County through strategic outreach; community education including presentations to local agencies and coalitions; engagement events in the communities such as communities, schools and places of worship; and create and distribute outreach materials to address gaps in existing services, through April 30, 2023.   
  
This agreement includes agreeing to indemnify, defend and hold harmless the State from any claims arising out of, or in connection with, the performance of this agreement.
