RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Director, to execute an amendment to Purchase Order #22285 with Beckman Coulter, Inc. to increase the payment limit by $500,000 for a new payment limit of $2,000,000 to procure reagents and supplies with no change in the original term of May 15, 2021 through May 14, 2022.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this purchase order amendment will result in $500,000 of additional expenditures and will be funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise I Fund revenues.

BACKGROUND:

The Clinical Laboratory utilizes Beckman Coulter, Inc.’s equipment and reagents to support their core disciplines: Chemistry, Hematology and Urinalysis to perform routine testing on patient samples in the clinical laboratory. Year over year, the lab has experienced a five to seven percent growth in the volume of physician ordered tests creating the need for additional funds.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this purchase order amendment is not approved, the laboratory will be unable to support testing needs for the hospital. This will have a significant negative impact on patient care in the emergency room, where timely test results are utmost needed. The lab will need to send patient samples out to reference laboratories for testing. As a result, physicians will experience delayed turnaround time for test results, thus impacting their ability to diagnosis and treat their patients. Additionally, CCRMC will experience an increase in cost per test and additional courier fees.
