RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with Thyssenkrupp Elevator Company, effective May 11, 2021, to extend the term from May 31, 2021 through May 31, 2022, to provide routine elevator maintenance services and emergency repairs at various County facilities, with no change to the payment limit of $1,300,000, Countywide.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Contract costs are budgeted in the Facilities Maintenance Budget. There is no fiscal impact to this action.

BACKGROUND:

Public Works Facilities Services is responsible for maintenance of County buildings. Forty eight of the elevators now in service at County facilities are under the Thyssenkrupp Elevator Company. Thyssenkrupp provides routine maintenance and emergency repairs. Government Code Section 25358 authorizes the County to contract for maintenance and upkeep of County buildings.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

The contract with Thyssenkrupp Elevator Company, is due to expire May 31, 2021. The Public Works Department recently conducted a formal solicitation for on-call elevator services and is requesting authorization to extend this contract to May 31, 2022, to ensure the County has access to the contractor's services pending evaluation, award and execution of the new elevator services contracts.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this amendment is not approved, elevator maintenance services with Thyssenkrupp Elevator Company, will be discontinued.
