RECOMMENDATION(S):

Accept, on behalf of the Contra Costa County Library, the donation of a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan Minivan (VIN #2C7WDGB67ER473167) from Tri Delta Transit East Contra Costa Transit Authority for use by the Library’s Automation Services Division.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Library Fund. The vehicle is being sold to the County for $5.00. Fleet Management has determined the Kelly Bluebook value of the vehicle to be in the range of $6,000-$10,000. The vehicle has been driven about 90,000 miles but will need only minor repairs.

BACKGROUND:

The Library’s Automation Services Division routinely transports IT equipment to 29 library locations. Most often, the equipment is contained in numerous bulky boxes and does not fit into an employee’s personal vehicle in a single trip. Staff must then make several trips using their own vehicles. Currently, Automation Services Division does not have a vehicle assigned for dedicated use in the Library's pool of fleet vehicles.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

The 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan is a minivan with features, such as rear folding seats, that allow for more cargo capacity which will assist staff in safely transporting fragile equipment. The Library does not intend for this to be a permanent expansion of the Library's fleet of vehicles, and will not request to capture vehicle replacement funds for this vehicle's replacement at the end of its useful life.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Library will not be able to provide an appropriate vehicle for Automation Services Division staff to efficiently perform their jobs.
