RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE Appropriations and Revenue Adjustment No. 5068 authorizing revenue in the amount of $226,284 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Victims of Crime and Bureau of Justice Assistance and appropriating it in the District Attorney's Office to develop an effective and sustainable multidisciplinary task force that will implement a coordinated victim-centered approach to identifying victims of sex and labor trafficking.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This action will increase Fiscal Year 2019-20 revenue appropriations by $226,285 and increase "Temporary Salaries" expenditure appropriations by $221,808. Additionally, there will be an increase of $4,476 to "Other Travel Employees" expenditure appropriations.

BACKGROUND:

The District Attorney's Office received Board approval and authorization on August 7, 2018 to apply for and accept grant funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Victims of Crime and Bureau of Justice Assistance. The program creating the Human Trafficking Task Force (HTTF) was approved and implemented mid Fiscal Year 2019-20.

This grant funding is being used to enhance the quality and quantity of services available to assist victims of human trafficking by enhancing interagency collaboration and the coordinated community response to victims of human trafficking, and through the provision of high quality services that address the individual needs of victims.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The District Attorney's Office will not be able to appropriate revenues and expenditures consistent with acceptance of the grant as approved by the Board.
