RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase Order with Hologic, Inc. in the amount of $560,000 to purchase Panther Fusion SARS-CoV-2 test reagents and related laboratory supplies for COVID-19 testing at the Public Health Laboratory, for the period from May 1, 2020 through April 30, 2021.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Funding is included in the Hospital Enterprise Fund I Budget.

BACKGROUND:

Hologic, Inc. is the sole source provider of reagents for the automated Panther Fusion System. These reagents are used to conduct high throughput Coronavirus testing at the County's Public Health Laboratory. The reagents are highly sensitive and specific for the organism being tested. These tests take significantly less time to identify the organisms than traditional Polymerase Chain Reaction tests currently used at the Public Health Laboratory. These reagents will allow the Public Health Laboratory to increase COVID-19 testing.
