RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute an Agreement with the County of Los Angeles for reciprocal intrastate transportation of inmates for the period July 1, 2019 until terminated by either County.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No Fiscal Impact.

BACKGROUND:

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff is responsible for the transportation of Contra Costa County inmates held in custody outside of the County. These inmates are either arrested on warrants or have removal orders originating from Contra Costa County.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff has contracted with the County of Los Angeles for over 28 years to provide inmate transportation along established statewide transportation routes. The County of Los Angeles provides weekly scheduled pick-ups for male inmates throughout the State of California and is responsible for punctual delivery of inmates to the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Not approving this contract will create expenses related to the transportation of inmates that would have been at no cost under this proposed contract.
