RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 22060 to add one (1) Network Technician II (LNVA) (represented) position at salary plan and grade ZB5 1592 ($5,599-$6,806) and cancel one (1) vacant Network Administrator II (LNSB) (represented) position #16069 at salary plan and grade ZA5 1787 ($6,792-$8,255) in the County Administrator's Office, Information Technology Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This transaction will not result in any additional cost to the Department. Funding for the new position will be provided through a reallocation of savings from canceled contract services.

BACKGROUND:

Due to a change in responsibilities, the Information Technology department needs to add one Network Technician II position and cancel one Network Administrator II position #16069.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

The Department of Information Technology has been using contractors to provide computer desktop support for the Board of Supervisor offices. Keeping these computer systems running reliably require specialized knowledge and a number of skill sets that are difficult to recruit. These computer systems are mission-critical for the Board of Supervisor offices that use them, and we need to continue to provide ongoing technical support and planning services. In December, during the Meet and Confer process with Local 21, DoIT agreed that we would attempt to replace these contractors with permanent staff. After analyzing the available job classes, we determined that the best match for this position is the Network Technician II. Based on the ongoing need for services and the agreement with Local 21 we are seeking to add and fill this position to provide these services. If we successfully fill this position then the contracted services will be terminated and the funds for that contract will be pay for the new Network Technician II position.

Based on the positions preponderance of duties assigned, responsibilities, and level of duties, DoIT recommends adding a Network Technician II (LNVA) position.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, this position will not be properly classified based on assigned duties and responsibilities of the position.
