RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21655 to add one (1) full-time Departmental Community and Media Relations Coordinator (ADSH) (unrepresented) position at salary plan and grade B85-1649 ($5,532 - $6,725) in the Animal Services Department.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of approximately $107,961, which includes about $23,234 in pension costs. This position would be funded entirely by the County's General Fund. No costs are anticipated to be incurred in the current fiscal year.

BACKGROUND:

This position will identify and develop opportunities to increase the department’s community outreach and engagement program; and enhance media relations and image development. In addition, the staff will work with the Animal Services Director to identify and develop opportunities to increase Animal Services Department's exposure and community support via media relations, speaking opportunities, marketing efforts, strategic partnerships and involvement in community activities; and will identify and implement additional strategies to increase the department’s adoption rates.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Should the Board elect to not add the position, the community will be less informed about Animal Services Department programs and initiatives.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

None.
