RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with the California Department of Food and Agriculture increasing the reimbursement limit to the County by $38,544 for a new limit of $754,460 to provide pest detection services for the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Amendment 1 of the Agreement #14-0167 Exotic Pest Detection Trapping provides additional reimbursement for County expenses incurred during the period beginning July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015 for pest detection work performed on behalf of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) in Contra Costa County. The difference in revenue of $38544. has been adjusted in the department's 14/15 budget.

BACKGROUND:

The county shall provide services for placing and servicing of traps for the detection of exotic insect pests, which are considered hazardous to agriculture and the economy of California. The insects may include, but are not limited to the Mediterranean Fruit Fly, Mexican Fruit Fly, Oriental Fruit Fly, Melon Fly, Gypsy Moth, Japanese Beetle and Asian Citrus Psyllid. This list is not inclusive and may contain other invasive exotic pests as identified. This agreement includes delimitation work associated with the detection of one or more life stages of target pests in the county.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

A negative action would cause a loss of revenue to the department and possible threat to our local agriculture and residents of Contra Costa County.
