RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-781-1 with Abid Majid, M.D., a self-employed individual, effective January 1, 2015, to amend Contract #26-781, to increase the payment limit by $150,000, from $50,000 to a new payment limit of $200,000, with no change in the original term of September, 1 2014 through October 31, 2015.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This amendment is funded 100% by Hospital Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

In December 2014, the County Administrator approved and the Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract #26-781 with Abid Majid, M.D. for the provision of pulmonary services, including, but not limited to clinic coverage, consultation, performing bronchoscopies, staffing and on-call coverage for the Critical Care Unit at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers, (CCRMC), for the period from September 1, 2014 through October 31, 2015. At the time of negotiations, the payment limit was based on target levels of utilization. However, the utilization during the term of the agreement was higher than originally anticipated, the County requested, and the Contractor agreed to increase the service hours provided. Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-781-1 will allow the Contractor to provide additional pulmonary services through October 31, 2015.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this amendment is not approved, patients requiring pulmonary services will not have access to Contractor’s services, which may result in a reduction in the overall levels of service to the community.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
