RECOMMENDATION(S):
AUTHORIZE the Chair of the Board of Supervisors to sign a letter to the County's Congressional representatives providing support to continue the funding for the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB), as recommended by the Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the County.
BACKGROUND:
The CSB was created by the 1990 Clean Air Act and investigation chemical incidents to determine the root cause of the incident and makes recommendations on how to prevent such similar incidents in the future. The President’s proposed budget would defund the CSB. Attached is a letter from the Hazardous Materials Commission making a request that the Chair of the Board send a letter to the County’s Congressional representatives to continue to fund the CSB.
