RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the District Attorney, or designee, to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, to distribute a stipend in the amount of $2,000.00 to the student who participated in the District Attorney's 2014 summer training program.  

FISCAL IMPACT:

The cost will not exceed $2,000 total.

BACKGROUND:

The District Attorney wishes to present a summer training program for students having completed their second year of law school. The Office will benefit from giving potential employees an introduction to different areas of the office and giving advanced training in the area of criminal prosecution and providing support for its employees, while the students will gain important work experience and insight into the practice of criminal prosecution. The District Attorney’s office will pay only a $2,000 stipend or work-study contribution for each participating student during the time period.


CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The District Attorney will be unable to pay stipends to students that provided services to the County in Summer 2014.
