RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Agreement #26-338-18 with The American National Red Cross, a non-profit corporation, to provide total blood and blood component products and associated services as needed for patients at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 for the period from April 1, 2015 through March 31, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% funded by Hospital Enterprise I Funds. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services.  









BACKGROUND:

On August 13, 2013, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-338-17 with The American National Red Cross, for the period from April 1, 2013 through March 31, 2015, to provide total blood and blood component products and associated services as needed for patients at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. Approval of Agreement #26-338-18 will allow Contractor to continue to provide total blood and blood component products and services, through March 31, 2017, including mutual indemnification to hold harmless both parties for any claims arising out of the performance of this Agreement and arbitration.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this Agreement is not approved, the County will not be able to provide blood and blood component products and associated services as needed for patients at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
