RECOMMENDATION(S):

RATIFY the Fire District's grant application; and APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Fire Chief, or designee, to accept grant funding from the State Homeland Security Grant Program (SHSGP), in an amount not to exceed $50,000, for the purchase of communications mobile gateway equipment.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (District) could receive up to $50,000 in federal funds if awarded. There is no local agency cost sharing requirement. The grant award may be lower than the amount requested and will be for a period of one year from the effective date of the award.

BACKGROUND:

The FY 2022 State Homeland Security Grant (SHSGP) Program objectives are to assist state, tribal, and local preparedness activities that address high-priority preparedness gaps across all core capabilities where a nexus to terrorism exists. The funds requested will be used to purchase communications mobile gateway equipment. The District has a need for new gateway equipment in order to improve interoperability with law enforcement and other public agencies within Contra Costa County. This communications mobile gateway equipment will be installed in the District's communications vehicle to provide improved interoperability between radio systems during large scale or multi-agency incidents.

In order to meet the grant application deadline, the Fire District submitted this grant application on November 30, 2021 and is requesting the Board to ratify the application of this grant.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The District would not be able to accept this funding and would need to be able to identify alternative funding for this equipment.
