RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2021/102 to recognize Melody Hung-Fan, Director of Public Health Laboratory Services, on the occasion of her retirement after 33 years of service to Contra Costa County.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact for this action.














BACKGROUND:

Melody Hung-Fan began her career with Contra Costa County in 1988 as a Public Health Microbiologist. She worked her way up the ranks of the Public Health Labs, through promotions to the Senior Public Health Microbiologist in 1993, Supervising Public Health Microbiologist in 2000, and Public Health Laboratory Manager in 2009. In 2013, she was promoted to her current role of Director of Public Health Laboratory Services, where she has spent the last 8 years planning, evaluating, organizing, and directing all activities and staff of the Contra Costa Public Health Laboratory. Under Ms. Hung-Fan’s leadership, the Contra Costa Public Health Laboratory has been in the forefront of the Public Health industry for years; she and her staff have worked tirelessly throughout all phases of creating, running, and evaluating testing procedures for a variety of public health issues, including HIV, West Nile virus, Zika virus, Influenza, SARS-CoV-2, etc.; more recently, her efforts to provide effective guidance during a historic, unprecedented time of Public Health concern due to the global pandemic, have been instrumental in ensuring the safety of the communities that Contra Costa County serves, as well as the Public Health Laboratory staff.  
  
The Health Services department would like to recognize Ms. Hung-Fan on her exceptional accomplishments throughout her career with Contra Costa County, and congratulate her on her retirement after 33 years of service to the County and the communities we serve.
