RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No.21640 to add four (4) Exempt Medical Staff Physician (VPW9) positions at salary plan and grade level 1P5-2312 ($10,730 - $14,431) in the Health Services Department. (Represented)

FISCAL IMPACT:

Upon approval, this action has an annual cost of approximately $1,018,259.83 including $245,906.28 in pension costs, which is totally offset by third party payor revenues.

BACKGROUND:

The Health Services Department is requesting to add four (4) Exempt Medical Staff Physician positions assigned to the Labor and Delivery, and Pediatric/Nursery Units within Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers. The hospital has experienced an increase in volume of deliveries over the last two years and have relied on overtime to meet its staffing needs. These positions are necessary to remedy the chronic short staffing in the 24/7 operations of both units.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, there will not be adequate staff to meet the staffing needs of Labor and Delivery, and Pediatric/Nursery Units within the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and its Health Centers, which directly impacts patient care services.
