RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa, to execute a contract with Contra Costa County Office of Education, to pay County an amount not to exceed $200,000 from the Diablo Gateways to Innovation California Career Pathways Trust Grant to provide Employer Engagement and Work-Based learning strategies to the Diablo Gateways to Innovation Consortium for the period December 1, 2014 through August 31, 2015.

FISCAL IMPACT:

County to receive up to $200,000 funding from the Contra Costa County Office of Education - Diablo Gateways to Innovation California Career Pathways Trust Grant. No county match











BACKGROUND:

The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County (WDBCCC) requests Board Approval to enter into a Contract with Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE). CCCOE received a California Career Pathways Trust grant from the California Department of Education and will fund WDBCCC to implement Employer Engagement & Work-Based learning strategies for the Diablo Gateways to Innovation (DGI) consortium. The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County will work in partnership with the Contra Costa Economic Partnership to 1. Identify existing assets in the Diablo Gateways to Innovation region and sub-region; 2. Obtain industry input on Employer Engagement including Work-based learning and sustainable strategies; 3. Identify gaps, define partner functions & community resources; develop appropriate measures of success; 4. Pilot summer “Earn & Learn” tools and strategies and, 5. Make recommendation on year 2 of Employer Engagement/Work-based learning efforts for the DGI executive committee approval.   

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Employment and Human Services Department will be unable to accept Contra Costa County Office of Education funding.
