RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to accept funding from the California Department of Education in an amount not to exceed $5,682 for the term July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 for Infant Toddler Resource support costs related to Child Development programs.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None
100% State funding

Funding to be appropriated in the Department's FY 2008-09 budget.

BACKGROUND:

The California Department of Education regularly releases support funds for contractors that operate Child Development programs across the State. The support contracts typically arrive later in the fiscal year; this year the contract arrived later than usual due to State budget delays. The CCAP 8034 agreement (CCC 39-822) funds Infant and Toddler resources for the 2008-09 fiscal year.

Approval of this contract will allow the County to purchase materials in support of the Infant Toddler Child Development program operated by the Community Services Bureau of the Employment & Human Services Department.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

The Employment & Human Services Department's Community Services Bureau childcare programs support three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
