RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the General Services Director, or designe, to execute a contract with Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz ("KMD") in an amount not to exceed $162,000 to provide Architectural/Engineering services for the Antepartum Room Remodel project at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for the period dated March 3, 2009 through December 31, 2009.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for the architectural/engineering services are budgeted in the Health Services Hospital Enterprise Fund (6971-4542).

BACKGROUND:

The project involves remodeling two rooms on the fifth floor to provide an additional labor delivery room to the perinatal unit. The project will expand the capacity of the Maternal Child Care Program at the Hospital. Key elements of the project include:

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
  • Interior remodeling required for the conversion of a 300 square foot Antepartum Room to a Labor Delivery Room.
  • Extension and distribution of medical gas and emergency power systems as required.
  • Redistribution of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems as required for current codes.
  • Upgrades to conform to current Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Contra Costa Regional Medical Center has a significant shortage of labor delivery rooms. Without the project, the hospital will have an unused room that could be used for patient services.
