RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to apply for and accept grant funding in an amount not to exceed $238,016 from the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging for the Senior Community Service Employment Program for the period February 1, through June 30, 2017.

FISCAL IMPACT:

County to receive an amount not to exceed $238,016. (100% Federal) (10% County General Fund match)  

BACKGROUND:

The National Asian Pacific Center grant funding is designed to administer the Senior Community Service Employment Program for seniors 55+ who are veterans, disabled, homeless or at risk of homelessness, low literacy or low English proficiency, including a training program with 46 slots to ultimately allow seniors to reenter the workforce in unsubsidized positions. The grant was awarded with the potential for annual renewal up to three years.



CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Without funding, programs designed to provide senior community service employment services could not be implemented.
