RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-506-4 with East Bay Perinatal Medical Associates, a general partnership, in an amount not to exceed $102,000, for the provision of perinatology services for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2016.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

For many years the County has contracted with Medical, Dental, and Mental Health Specialists to provide specialized professional services that are not otherwise available in its Hospital and Health Centers.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

On January 11, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-506-3 with East Bay Perinatal Medical Associates, for the period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2013, for the provision of perinatology services including, but not limited to, twenty-four hour a day, seven days a week telephone consultation services for perinatal patients, on-site perinatal consultation at Pittsburg, Richmond and Martinez Clinics, providing Level-II ultrasounds and genetic counseling for patients with normal Alpha Fetal Protein screens.

Approval of Contract #26-506-4 will allow the Contractor to continue providing professional perinatology services through December 31, 2016.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, County’s patients requiring professional perinatology services would not have access to Contractor’s professional services, which may result in a reduction in the overall levels of service to the community.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not Applicable.
