RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE Appropriation and Revenue Adjustment No. 5047 and AUTHORIZE the appropriation of revenue from the Public Works Department 0650, Division 4547, Maintenance Engineering, Transfers - Gov/Gov (9956) sub-account to the Public Works Department 0650, Division 4547, Maintenance Engineering, Tools And Sundry Equipment (4956) sub-account, in the amount of $16,000.00, for the purchase of two (2) Multiquip LT12D Mobile Light Towers for use by the Public Works Department, Maintenance Engineering Division.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Road Improvement Fund.

BACKGROUND:

Public Works is responsible for maintaining the roads of Contra Costa County. Incidents such as slides, downed trees, accidents or damages to sections of road, often require that multiple lanes of traffic be redirected to a single lane. The diversion of traffic requires flagging, or staff at the ends of the diversion controlling traffic with stop/slow paddles. When this type of work occurs at night, it is required that the flagging station be lighted for the safety of staff and the public. The light tower trailers to be purchased are designed to provide light in the aforementioned situations.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this action is not approved, the Public Works Maintenance Engineering Division will not have enough appropriated funds to cover the purchase cost of the two (2) new light towers. If the light towers aren't purchased, the Public Works Maintenance Engineering Division will be limited in its ability to provide services that require traffic diversion at night or in other low light situations.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
