RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE Appropriation Adjustment No. 5048 authorizing the transfer of appropriations in the amount of $232,500 from the Emergency Services Division (0362) to the Sheriff's Office (0255) to recognize the reorganization of the Sheriff's Public Affairs Unit.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This action increases appropriations in Recruiting (2502) and decreases appropriations in OES (3620) by 232,500. No change in Net County Cost.

BACKGROUND:

The Office of the Sheriff Public Affairs Unit is currently part of the Emergency Services Division. It consists of a Public Affairs Director and a Clerical Specialist. The goal of the unit is to use staff, communication tools and services to provide effective, proactive and consistent communications between the Office of the Sheriff, the communities it serves and the media.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The Office of the Sheriff will move the Public Affairs Unit and the associated appropriations from the Emergency Services Division (3620) to the Professional Standards Division Recruiting Unit (2502). The Public Affairs Unit duties can be handled more efficiently by transferring the two employees to the Professional Standards Division, which is physically located in close proximity to the Sheriff, the Undersheriff, and other members of the executive staff. This will not only improve the efficiency but also the accuracy and timeliness of information provided to the media and the public.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

Expenditure appropriations will not be budgeted in the correction location to reflect the transfer of the Sheriff's Public Affairs Unit from the Emergency Services Division (0362) to the Sheriff's Office (0255).

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact.
