RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Grant Agreement #29-535 with Shelter, Inc. to pay the County an amount not to exceed $107,663 for the Veterans’ Administration Supportive Services for Veterans Families Program, for the period from October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This grant will result in an amount not to exceed $107,663 from Shelter, Inc. through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the County’s Supportive Services for Veterans Families Program. No County match required.











BACKGROUND:

Supportive Services for Veteran Families Program (SSVF) provides housing stability to homeless and at risk Veterans and their families, who are residing in permanent housing, are homeless and scheduled to become residents of permanent housing within a specified time period, or after existing permanent housing, are seeking other housing that is responsive to the needs and preferences of such very low income Veteran families. County’s Behavioral Health Services Division/Homeless will deliver services under the SSVF Program by providing case management and temporary financial assistance to eligible veteran families through September 30, 2013, including agreeing to indemnify and hold harmless the grantor for claims arising out of County’s performance under this Contract.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this grant is not approved, County will not receive funding to support the services needed for the Veteran Families Program.
