RECOMMENDATION(S):

ADOPT Resolution No. 2013/113 to authorize the County's Health Services Department to pay the following forms of compensation to Temporary Exempt Medical Staff Physicians. To the extent that employees previously received these payments in error, no recoupment is required.

FISCAL IMPACT:

These payments are included in the department's budget. There is no change in fiscal impact.

BACKGROUND:

The Health Services Department finds it necessary to pay Temporary Exempt Medical Staff Physicians for evening and weekend assignments, physician call, regular obstetrics coverage for holidays, evenings and weekends, call back pay, pay for weekend and holiday rounds, emergency room pay, and fallback duty pay in order to appropriately staff Health Services facilities. These payments will be paid at the rates identified in the resolution. Adopting the resolution will provide authorization for the continuation of these payments.   
  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this resolution is not adopted, the County will not receive the additional necessary services of the temporary physicians described above.
