RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #22-780-12 with John Muir Health, Inc. (dba John Muir Community Health Alliance), in an amount not to exceed $3,000, for County’s use of a mobile van for the provision of health services in Central and East Contra Costa County, for the period from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by a Federal Health Care for the Homeless Grant. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

On February 7, 2012, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-780-11 with John Muir Health Inc., (dba John Muir Community Health Alliance), for the provision of County’s use of a mobile van to provide health services that include, but are not limited to, immunizations, routine physical assessments, basic treatment of primary health problems such as minor wounds and skin conditions, respiratory problems, TB, acute communicable disease, pregnancy testing, and pediatric well and sick care. in Central and East Contra Costa County, for the period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.   
  
Approval of Contract #22-780-12 will allow the County continuous use of Contractor’s mobile van to conduct regularly scheduled clinics which offer much needed health care services to low-income families and disadvantaged individuals in Central and East Contra Costa County, particularly along the Monument Corridor, through December 31, 2013, including mutual indemnification to hold the other party harmless from any claims arising out of the performance of this Contract.  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, low-income families and disadvantaged individuals in Central and East Contra Costa County will not receive much needed health care services.
