RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-904-26 with Stephen D. Weiss, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $540,000, for the provision of professional general surgery services for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded by Enterprise I Budget. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

On January 10, 2012, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-904-25 with Stephen D. Weiss, M.D., to provide general surgery services including consultation, training, on-call, medical and/or surgical procedures, for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2012.  



BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
  
Approval of Contract #26-904-26, will allow the Contractor to continue to provide professional general surgery services including, clinic coverage, consultation, training and medical and/or surgical procedures, through December 31, 2013.  

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would have longer wait times and possibly go untreated.
