RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #24-403-10 with Jon Whalen, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $300,800 to provide professional outpatient children’s psychiatric services, for the period from February 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded by 50% Federal Medi-Cal and 50% State Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

On February 8, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Cancellation Agreement #24-403-8 and Contract #24-403-9 with Jon Whalen, M.D, for the period from February 1, 2012 through January 31, 2013 for the provision of professional outpatient psychiatric services for children at the East County Children’s Clinic.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Approval of Contract #24-403-10 will allow Contractor to continue providing services through January 31, 2013.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, County’s clients will not have access to Contractor’s professional outpatient psychiatric services and reduced overall levels of service.
