Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract #26-395-12 with LocumTenens.com, LLC, a limited liability company, in an amount not to exceed $300,000, to provide temporary physician services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period from March 1, 2012 through February 28, 2013.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This Contract is funded 100% by Health Services Department Enterprise Fund I. As appropriate, patients and/or third-party payors will be billed for services. No rate increase.

BACKGROUND:

For a number of years, the County has contracted with registries to provide temporary qualified physicians to work as temporary and permanent employees to ensure appropriate medical physician and inpatient psychiatry staff coverage at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

On March 15, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-395-11 with LocumTenens.com, LLC to provide temporary physician services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers for the period from March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012.

Approval of Contract #26-395-12 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide temporary physician services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers including changes to the County’s General Conditions including modified indemnification and independent contractor status language, through February 28, 2013.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this contract is not approved, Contra Costa Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers and the County's Main Detention Facility would not have appropriate physician coverage during temporary staff absences therefore patients would go untreated.
