RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the Sheriff-Coroner, a purchase order with Motor Coach Industries in the amount of $560,250 for a transportation bus for the Custody Services Bureau.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% General Fund, Sheriff's Detention Budget.

BACKGROUND:

The vendor, Motor Coach Industries (MCI), currently provides and builds inmate transportation motor coaches for the California Department of Corrections, Los Angeles County Sheriff, as well as other Sheriff's offices throughout the State of California.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
MCI's motor coaches are designed and engineered to have a useful lifespan of approximately 600,000 miles. In the past, the Sheriff's Office used Thomas Built buses, which are mostly designed for transportation of school children. MCI's motor and transmission combination are industry standard for large long-haul trucks designed to last a very long time, which is necessary considering the partitions and security features required for transportation of inmates.
