RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract Amendment Agreement #26-700-1 with Jaison James, M.D., Inc., a professional corporation, effective January 1, 2012, to amend Contract #26-700, to increase the payment limit by $675,000, from $675,000 to a new payment limit of $1,350,000 with no change in the original term of August 1, 2011 through July 31, 2014.

FISCAL IMPACT:

This amendment is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. (No rate increase)

BACKGROUND:

On August 16, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-700 with Jaison James, M.D., Inc., for period from August 1, 2011 through July 31, 2014, for the provision of orthopedic services including consultation, training, on-call services and medical and/or surgical procedures.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Approval of Contract Amendment Agreement #26-700-1 will allow the Contractor to provide additional orthopedic surgery services due to the departure of another orthopedic surgeon at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, through July 31, 2014.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this amendment is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers would experience longer wait times and possibly go untreated.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
