BACKGROUND:

This position is needed to staff a pilot project under the Prevention and Early Intervention Program's Suicide Prevention Initiative. Over the last year, the Suicide Prevention Committee has met a number of times, considering models of suicide prevention and examining the data on those who have touched the system and died by suicide. It was agreed to pilot a project modeled after the suicide prevention protocol developed by the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. The components include training staff in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, a concerted effort to support means reduction, follow-up phone calls for persons at risk of suicide, and drop-in support groups for those who are at risk. The project will be piloted in Central County where the highest rate of suicide occurs.

This new position will be responsibile for making the follow up phone calls for those in our Cental County Adult Population who are at risk for suicide as well as those Central County residents who have made a visit to Psychiatric Emergency Services and are at risk of suicide. The position will also be conducting the drop-in support groups for those who are at risk.
