RECOMMENDATION(S):

Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase Order with Beckman Coulter, Inc., in the amount of $181,318.75, for two (2) new Hematology Analyzers (DXH 800) and one (1) Slide Maker/Stainer (DXH SMS) to perform chemistry tests for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers.

FISCAL IMPACT:

100% Enterprise Funds.

BACKGROUND:

Health Services Department uses the Hemotology Analyzers and Slide Maker/Stainer to perform various chemistry tests for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers (CCRMC). The current Hematology analyzers were purchased in 2003 and 2006 and are now obsolete. The Department will receive a trade-in credit of $46,000 from the Vendor for the old equipment. The new equipment will allow Department to use current technology and cut down on false test results leading to less manual intervention.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Beckman Coulter, Inc. is a participating vendor in our “Novation” Group Purchasing Alliance, allowing us to secure preferred pricing on all of these products.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this purchase order is not approved, CCRMC would have to continue to use the existing LH750 and LH755 analyzers which were purchased in 2003 and 2006, and have increased downtime due to their age. The new analyzers require less intervention by clinical laboratory scientist.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

Not applicable.
