RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPOINT the following person to the District II-A Seat of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board of Contra Costa County for a term with an expiration date of June 30, 2012, as recommended by Supervisor Uilkema:

Ms. Jill Chioino

901 Harbor View Drive

Martinez, CA 94553

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.

BACKGROUND:

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board was created in 1992 by the Board of Supervisors. Their mission is to assess family and community needs regarding treatment and prevention of alcohol and drug abuse problems, and to report the findings and recommendations to the Health Services Department, the Board of Supervisors and the community that they serve.

The Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board is comprised of twenty-one members (20 members ans one alternate). Members shall have a professional interest in, or personal commitment to, alleviating problems related to drug abuse and inappropriate alcohol use in their community. The alternate member can sit and vote for any of the five At-large seats on the Committee. If a vacancy occurs, the alternate will automatically assume the vacant At-large seat. The membership breakdown is as follows:

  • Three representatives to be nominated by each member of the Board of Supervisors.
  • Five at-large members to be nominated by the Internal Operations Committee to insure geographic, racial and ethnic diversity on the Advisory Board.
  • One alternate member to be nominated by the Internal Operations Committee.
Members serve for three year terms.

Supervisor Uilkema has advertised the vacant District 2 Seat for several months. Ms. Chioino submitted an application, Supervisor Uilkema met with her and feels she will be a positive addition to the Board.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The seat would remain unfilled.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

None.
