RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with Language Line Services, Inc. to increase the payment limit by $300,000 to a new payment limit of $900,000 for interpretation and translation services, for the period April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$900,000: Administrative Overhead (20% County; 40% State; 40% Federal)

BACKGROUND:

Language Line Services, Inc., was selected through the competitive process to provide telephone interpretation, on-site interpretation, and document translation services to non-English speaking recipients of Employment and Human Services Department services. In compliance with State and Federal regulations, interpretation services will be made via telephone translation and in-person, on-site translation services. Document translation services will also be provided for any document needing translation into English or into a client’s native language.

As a result of increase use of Language Line Services due to increased demand of services provided by Employment and Human Services, this amendment will increase the payment limit by $300,000.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The Employment and Human Services Department will be unable to pay for services to contract term or pay for services already provided.
