RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Auditor-Controller, or designee, to return $1,381 to the California Emergency Management Agency (CalEMA) for grant claims in excess of the grant award for the 2009 Regional Anti-Drug Program, as recommended by the County Probation Officer.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$1,381. This amount will be refunded from the Probation Department 2010/11 operating budget.

BACKGROUND:

The Board of Supervisors approved the Regional Anti-Drug Program grant from the California Emergency Management Agency on October 6, 2009 for the District Attorney, Office of the Sheriff and Probation Department. The countywide grant award was not to exceed $678,468 and required quarterly claims to be submitted by each department. The Probation Department claimed $1,381 in error during Fiscal Year 2009/10 and must refund the money to CalEMA.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

The erroneous claim was discovered during an audit by the State of California. Failure to return the funds could result in a negative audit finding.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact.
