RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to accept a grant in the amount of $7,000 from United Way of the Bay Area to support the Service Integration Program (SIT) Bay Point Works activities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

$7,000: 100% Private Foundation Grant, United Way of the Bay Area.

BACKGROUND:

The Earn It! Keep It! Save It! campaign sponsored in Contra Costa County by the Family Economic Security Partnership (FESP) and the Community Housing Benefit Corporation of North Richmond has a goal of providing free tax preparation services to low-income tax filers in Contra Costa County. The Bay Point Service Integraion Program's Community Career Center is one of several tax preparation sites in the County. Last year SIT prepared and filed 300 tax returns for low income residents at no cost; this year we plan to file 350. The United Way of the Bay Area grant will suport SIT's efforts to plan and staff the Bay Point tax site.
