RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian to accept donations in memory of long-time Youth Services Specialist Linda Duncan who passed away on January 7, 2009 to support reading and literacy programs for children.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Donations will be used to support reading and literacy programs for children.

BACKGROUND:

Linda Duncan worked for the Contra Costa County Library for over 36 years, beginning as a Librarian in 1972. She worked most of her years as a Youth Services Specialist at the Pleasant Hill Library, introducing generations of children to books and libraries. She also was responsible for library-wide activities such as training and collection development. When she passed away on January 7, 2009, Ms. Duncan's family requested that donations be made to the library in her memory. Funds received will be used to support the library's reading and literacy programs, collections and services for children.
