RECOMMENDATION(S):

APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent to execute, on behalf of the Health Services Director, a purchase order with Becton Dickinson and Company, in the amount of $304,960 to procure the Bruker Maldi Sirius System for the Clinical Laboratory at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC).

FISCAL IMPACT:

Approval of this purchase order will result in a one-time expenditure of up to $304,960 and will be 100% funded by Hospital Enterprise Fund I revenues.

BACKGROUND:

The Bruker Maldi Sirius System is a microbiology system that is used for rapid microbial identification. It provides critical information to clinicians to begin treatment for a patient. This instrument will automate many of the manual steps needed in this process. It will provide reliable identification of the microorganisms in a short time and reduce the burden on the staff. This will result in faster treatment for the patient.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

This vendor’s system is considered the gold standard in this technology, allowing physicians to better manage treatment. It also streamlines workflow for maximum productivity. No other vendor can provide a system that meets the CCRMC Clinical Laboratory’s requirements.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:

If this purchase order is not approved the clinical laboratory will be unable to deliver optimum care for patients. Not purchasing the Bruker Maldi Sirius System will slow down diagnosis and result in delays to patient care.
